Applications are accepted once a year beginning the first day back to the Spring semester.
Applications are due not later than the second Friday in February. Those awards will
be divided between the following Fall and Spring semesters.
Besides the scholarships offered by Ulster Community College Foundation, Inc., are
there other scholarships for which I may apply?

What Grade Point Average (GPA) do I need in order to be considered for a scholarship?
Many scholarships require a specific cumulative grade point average for consideration.
The committee gives strong preference to those applicants with a 3.3 or above. However,
campus activities and community service are also very important in determining awards.
What should I include in my essay?
Carefully read the criteria listed in the scholarship application as well as the scholarship
descriptions on the webpage. Include why you chose your major, what your career goals
are, any volunteer work, community service or high school or college campus activities
as well as why a scholarship would be helpful to you. You may want to briefly describe
any physical or financial challenges you experience. Please be sure it is typed, signed
and check for spelling and punctuation mistakes. Please single space if necessary
to keep to one page in length.
Will applications be accepted after the deadline?
Applications turned in after the deadline will be marked "late" and will only be considered
if there are not applications that meet specific scholarship criteria.
I have not completed 12 credits at Ulster County Community College. Can I apply for
a scholarship?
To be eligible for a returning scholarship you must be matriculated and have completed
12 credits at SUNY Ulster by May 31 of the year in which you are applying. For a transferring
scholarship you must complete 60 credits, 35 of which must be completed at SUNY Ulster
by May 31. In addition, there are scholarships available for entering students. Check
with the admissions office in Vanderlyn 101 to see if you are eligible.
If I am an international student, should I apply for a scholarship?
To be eligible for a returning scholarship you must be matriculated and have completed
12 credits at SUNY Ulster by May 31 of the year in which you are applying. For a transferring
scholarship you must complete 60 credits, 35 of which must be completed at SUNY Ulster
by May 31.
Can my essay be more than one page?
Because of the volume of paperwork for scholarship applications, we require that essays
be no more than ONE page. It is not necessary to include your life history. Instead
highlight why you are pursuing your education, community service you have done and
any financial or physical challenges you might have.
If I am graduating in May and do not plan to continue my education, should I fill
out an application in January?
Almost every scholarship offered by the Ulster Community College Foundation, Inc.
is for a student who will be attending Ulster County Community College or a student
who will be completing 60 credits, 35 of which at SUNY Ulster, and transferring to
a Senior Institution.
If a scholarship application requires a letter of reference, do I need a special form
or does the reference need to be in a sealed and signed envelope?
If the application does not specify, you may return the letter(s) of reference in
any format.
I am single right now but will be getting married within a few weeks/months. Which
do I check on the application?
List on the application your status at the time of application. If married, make sure
to list the last name that will appear on your college transcript. Please use your
hyphenated name for any future contact with the Foundation to avoid any confusion.
