Coach Maxwell was hired in July of 2015 and has lead the program to an eleven-win improvement in his first two seasons as Head Coach. The 2016-17 season was the best overall year for the program since 2001 under Anthony Evans (Head Coach Norfolk State & FIU). Both seasons the team finished in the Top-20 Nationally in Three-Pointers made. Three players have earned All-Conference selections, including one first team selection during his tenure. Two players have moved on to play at RIT (Xavier Maxwell) and SUNY New Paltz (Paddy Parr).
With the help of Harlem Globetrotter and former Siena player Tay Fisher, Coach Maxwell has run or helped organize five Boys Basketball Camps in two years at Ulster. The popular Tay Fisher camps are held twice a year, while Coach also runs his own yearly Boys Basketball Camps.
He previously was an Assistant Coach at Hilbert College in Buffalo, NY for three seasons. The program went 62-20, notching three twenty-win seasons, and winning one Regular Season Championship during his time there. Prior to Hilbert, he was a Graduate Assistant Coach at Canisius College for two years, graduating with a Masters in Sport Administration in 2012. The program was recognized by the NCAA Final Four and USA Today for their Academic Success during that time frame.
Coach Maxwell's playing career began at Guilderland High School where he was a Section Two All-Star and Team MVP his Senior Year, graduating in 2005. He played at Siena College under Fran McCaffery, appearing in 16 games as the program went 34-24 in two years. He transferred and graduated from Utica College in 2009 where he finished as one of the top shooters in the Empire 8, and Team Captain on the 2009 playoff team.
