Spring 2014
presents
Tim Rowan
Ceramic Artist
Stone Ridge artist Tim Rowan will exhibit his works in clay in a solo exhibit, “Place,” at SUNY Ulster’s Muroff Kotler Visual Arts Gallery. A reception will be held for the Opening Jan. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. This exhibition runs Jan. 24 – Feb. 21, 2014.
Rowan will show works that continue his exploration of native, unprocessed clay and pre-industrial methods of firing ceramics in a wood fueled kiln. He works intuitively with simple processes to transform the very land under our feet, challenging the hyper-mediated information obsessed and perpetually distracted culture.
The artist states, “The objects are grounded in earth time yet speak to us now. They are of nature, not about nature.”
Rowan located his kiln and studio in the Hudson Valley in 2000. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions internationally, most recently having solo shows at Cavin-Morris Gallery in New York and Yufuku Gallery in Tokyo, Japan.
Rowan earned a bachelor’s in fine arts degree from SUNY New Paltz and completed an apprenticeship in Japan with ceramic artist Ryuichi Kakurezaki. He also holds a MFA degree from Pennsylvania State University.
