Program Description
The Business: Accounting Program, leading to the Associate in Applied Science degree,
is designed for students planning to seek accounting positions in business, industry,
or government upon completion of two years of college study. The program also meets
the needs of employed individuals seeking to learn applications of accounting theory
as practiced in the field. Although the program can be used to prepare for further
study at four‐year colleges leading to the baccalaureate degree, it is recommended
that students who intend to continue to study beyond the A.A.S. degree consult with
an advisor prior to registration and consider the Business Administration (Transfer‐Oriented)
Program as an alternative.
Program Outcomes
At the completion of the A.A.S. Business Accounting Degree program, a student will
be able to
Employment Potential
Graduates of this program will be prepared for entry into the accounting profession
at a paraprofessional level through such positions as bookkeeper, accounting technician,
accounting clerk, accounts payable or receivable clerk, payroll clerk, and other entry-level
accounting positions.
Requirements for Program Entry
Developmental Assistance Available
For students who do not meet basic reading and math requirements or who have other
learning issues, extra assistance is readily available through SUNY Ulster's Learning
Center, The Gary and Janaki Math Center, the Writing Center, the Peer and Friend Tutor
Program, and English as a Second Language (ESL) tutors.
